I recently wrote about the “Smart Pill” for this blog, now the “Smart Bra” has arrived. All jokes aside, this “Breast Tissue Screening Bra promises to be non-invasive and painless, and more accurate than 3D mammography.” Source: gmanetwork.com
How it works
The device, designed and tested by First Warning Systems, can signal breast cancer long before self-breast exam or mammogram can because it identifies cancerous cells when they are much smaller than other techniques and recognize. It utilizes a sensor that “monitors minute temperature changes to look for areas where blood vessels are growing and feeding tumors… That sensor, meanwhile, communicates with pattern recognition software to help spot possible tumors long before a hand or mammogram likely would.” Source: dvice.com
The results
Data from three clinical trials (involving 650 study subjects) indicated that the smart bra’s level of accurately identifying early tumors was 92%, compared to only 70% accuracy with mammograms. Importantly for treatment and prognosis, this device detected early tumors as many as 6 years before imaging can. Source: news.cnet.com
First Warning System’s Executive Overview states that this device is a “cost effective system that saves lives, is more patient-friendly than current protocols, disruptive reduced healthcare costs, supports telemedicine and market acceleration economics for developing countries.”
Never fear, gentlemen, briefs for early detection of testicular cancer may be coming next!
